Over a 3 to 5 day period, an opiate-addicted young person receives medicine to help with the physical symptoms of withdrawal and begins counseling.
Patients are released to parents or another responsible adult who will supervise the youth overnight.
Community Health Center personnel coordinate with the patient’s school so the absence is treated just like any other medically necessary absence.
Once detox is complete, the youth is fast-tracked into an intensive outpatient counseling program.
Detox is only the first step. Youths also get medical care, individual and family counseling, education about addiction and information about recovery and treatment.
Children who enter treatment are NOT reported to law enforcement agencies, nor is Summit County Children Services involved unless child abuse or neglect is suspected.
