IRS SCAM
Email, texts or social media contact claiming to be from the IRS
and requesting personal information or request for payment of taxes
via pre-paid debit card or wire transfer
.
DO NOT REPLY – instead forward the message to phishing@irs.gov

If you receive a phone call claiming to be someone from the IRS,
ask for a call back number & employee badge number.
If it’s a scam, contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration on 1.800.366.4484

If you receive a letter in the mail,
contact the IRS on 1.800.829.1040 to determine if it’s legitimate before acting on it.
